Speed Converter

Convert metric, imperial, nautical, and pace-based speed units with formulas and copy-ready output.

Enter a speed, choose the source and target units, and generate a copy-ready conversion. The calculation stays in your browser and uses meters per second as the common reference for metric, imperial, nautical, and pace-based units.

Use a non-negative number. Commas as thousands separators and scientific notation are accepted.

How it works

The converter first expresses your input as meters per second, then divides by the target unit speed. Kilometers per hour use 1,000 meters and 3,600 seconds; miles per hour and feet per second use the exact international inch relationship of 1 inch = 0.0254 meters.

Knots use the international nautical mile value of 1,852 meters per hour. Pace units are the reciprocal of speed, so faster speeds produce smaller minute-per-distance values. Mach is shown with the common sea-level reference of 340.29 meters per second, not live atmospheric conditions.

Use this tool for travel estimates, running and cycling pace checks, classroom examples, navigation notes, and quick unit tables. It does not account for wind, altitude, temperature, traffic, or course conditions.
