Power Converter
Convert watts, kilowatts, horsepower, BTU per hour, foot-pounds per second, and tons of refrigeration with formulas and copy-ready output.
Enter a power amount, choose the source and target units, and generate a copy-ready conversion. The calculation stays in your browser and uses watts as the common reference for SI multiples, horsepower, heat-transfer rates, mechanical work rates, and refrigeration capacity comparisons.
Use a non-negative number. Commas as thousands separators and scientific notation are accepted.
How it works
The converter first expresses your input in watts, the SI derived unit equal to one joule per second, then divides by the target unit power. Milliwatts, kilowatts, megawatts, and gigawatts are decimal SI multiples.
Mechanical horsepower uses 745.6998715822702 watts. Metric horsepower uses 735.49875 watts. BTU per hour uses the International Table BTU over one hour, foot-pounds per second use the international foot-pound force relationship, and a ton of refrigeration is treated as 12,000 BTU per hour.
This is a reference converter for real power or rate-of-work comparisons. It does not convert apparent power in volt-amperes, reactive power in vars, electrical billing demand, motor efficiency, duty cycles, heat-pump performance, or power-factor effects.
