Data Size Converter
Convert bits, bytes, decimal data units, and binary IEC units with formulas, tables, and copy-ready output.
Enter a data size, choose the source and target units, and generate a copy-ready conversion. Everything runs in your browser and the output labels decimal byte units separately from binary IEC byte units so KB and KiB are not confused.
Use a non-negative number. Commas as thousands separators and scientific notation are accepted.
How it works
The converter first expresses your input as bytes. Bits use 8 bits per byte. Decimal storage and network units use powers of 1000, so 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes and 1 Mb is 1,000,000 bits.
Binary IEC units use powers of 1024, so 1 MiB is 1,048,576 bytes and 1 GiB is 1,073,741,824 bytes. The output keeps decimal labels such as KB and MB separate from binary labels such as KiB and MiB.
Use this tool for storage estimates, upload size checks, bandwidth notes, and quick byte tables. It does not estimate filesystem overhead, transfer protocol overhead, compression, deduplication, or vendor-specific capacity reporting.
